History and Interesting Facts

In 2012, Smith Hart and Stacey Angel worked with Bruce Hart on reopening the name Original Stampede Wrestling and opening up a training school in Bruce Hart's back yard. A film producer contacted Stacey Angel wanting to have access to Bruce Hart's ring and use the Original Stampede Wrestling team and students to film in the movie. The main actor was Doc Knight. He on several occasions asked Stacey Angel if he could be the president of Original Stampede Wrestling (at this time HLW didn't incorporate the name as we were just getting started). Stacey and Smith refused, due to Doc's fainting spells and sickness. Bottom line is Doc Knight became angry and  jealous, incorporated the name before anyone of the team could and took over everyone including staff hired, an investor and sponsors. Started slandering Stacey Angel and stalking her. Stacey Angel, Smith Hart , Teddy Hart, Harry Smith and Matthew Hart decided to put on some events during the Calgary Stampede time to see how the wrestling industry worked. Stacey hired an accountant to help and figure out in incorporating Stampede Extreme Sports.Stampede Extreme Sports brought in western Canada promoters and wrestlers. HLW had barely any fans due to the fact it was a pilot project. Doc Knight called the police during these events saying Stacey Angel had wrestlers beat him up. Stacey was called in for interrogation and backed down from putting a restraining order on Doc Knight. Later in 2012, Stampede Extreme Sports booked the Stampede Pavilion, A fellow that we will call "Katana" called in pretending he was Bruce Hart and the Pavilion said we were no longer allowed to use the name Stampede. Nadine Bews stepped away along with Bruce Hart at this time due to the drama. So Smith and Stacey chose to call the company Hart Legacy Wrestling. Making plans with Teddy Hart and Julie Hart to launch in 2013. HLW didn't fail on these issues but learned from them.

2013 Stacey Angel, John Onison, Smith Hart, Julie Hart, Teddy Hart and Connan (Triple AAA Mexico) ran an event at the Stampede Pavilion. HLW sold out 2000 fans turning a few hundred away.

The talent booker at the time (we will call him Mark The Shark), signed a contract with a budget and was reminded several times not to go over that budget. John Onison and Stacey Angel funded the project with these restrictions. HLW held a press conference and J. Devine showed up to it. He interrupted HLW's meeting and went down on his knees praying and begging HLW corporate team if he can be in the event apologizing to each one over and over again. HLW team sent him out and discussed J. Devine. Majority agreed for him to be in the event so he was signed being paid 50% up front.

During the event, John Onison arrived just before intermission with the remainder of the budget and Mark The Shark handed Stacey and John the document of what was owed. Mark The Shark overbooked wrestlers that weren't on the original documents leaving the HLW event in debt over $17,000. John Onison bank was frozen due to an audit and there was a limit on funds. Mark The Shark went down on his knees crying, stressing how he had to leave town, begging HLW owners to take the blame. John felt sorry for him and stood with the wrestlers explaining that when ticketmaster paid HLW, everyone would be paid off and we would pay an additional fee for having to wait the few days. (All the wrestlers that were originally booked were prepaid). John wrote out cheques to some of the wrestlers stating not to cash them until the certain date. Once the ticket cheque came in HLW paid all the wrestlers that were on the list. Mark The Shark meets up with some of HLW team and hands another list they were unaware of. During this time within a few days one of the wrestlers including Johnny Devine went public even though they were paid. They slandered John Onison publicly and eventually we found out it was Mark The Shark himself. Our lawyer at the time said they weren't on contract and the person who hired them was solely responsible to pay them. So HLW took a rest and helped Teddy Hart still launch an event the month after. Once again HLW did not fail, they learned not to do things this way ever again.

2015-2016 HLW opened up Hope's And Rope's Youth Enhancement Society ( founded by Stacey Angel, Julie Hart and Joe Pimlot) and trained less fortunate youth in professional wrestling. It was a success and we thank the Aboriginal Friendship Centre for taking part in this venture. Stacey, Julie Hart, Smith Hart, Teddy Hart and Matthew Hart took part in the training and graduation. HLW was looking forward to future opportunities. Unfortunately funding fell short with Gov't funding and Hope's And Rope's was unable to continue.

In 2016 HLW team did events at the Ranchman's Nightclub in which it kept a steady crowd of 600 plus fans coming back monthly. Staceys father passed away and Smith Hart fell sick with prostate cancer. HLW shut down at this time. Stacey and Smith Hart were common-law and were together for nine years and separated the last year, but remained the best of friends and Stacey and Smiths daughter Tania took care of Smith.

In 2017 Smith Hart passed away and Stacey Angel took some time off from HLW.

In 2018 Stacey started spending time with Steve Gillespie, a former professional wrestler and coach. Steve was diagnosed that year with cancer, but worked daily with Stacey on projects getting ready to launch. Stacey and Steve partnered with a few other people with an offer to take on the marketing and sales. Later in 2018 Stacey was diagnosed with rapidly spreading cancer and was taken in for surgery immediately with a 50/50 chance of surviving. After 22 staples and a radical hysterectomy, Stacey beat cancer. December of that year Stacey found out the marketing and sales guys didn't follow through with their position so Stacey and Steve went door to door pushing sales while marketing.

At the beginning of 2019, Stacey and Steve were still dealing with healing and pain (as Steve was getting radiation), they found out the marketing and sales guys didn't follow through on their end so Stacey and Steve went door to door to push sales while marketing. John Onison funded the event and withdrew from his position for personal matters. Steven Butt the CEO of Avenue Commercial and a dear friend of Stacey's and mentor came aboard and took on the concession and seating arrangements plus funded some of the third event. The HLW team was back in action filling up crowds of 600-800 fans weekly! Unfortunately flights were delayed often and other wrestling promotions were booking up the same dates which caused some issues behind the scenes. HLW team had a meeting and decided it was best to close it down. A few months later Steve Gillespie passed away. Stacey, Julie and Teddy had several meetings after taking time to mourn and looking at where there were mistakes made. Thank you for all the failed attempts as we gained wisdom not to make the same mistakes. Finally figuring out the solutions based on the past pilot projects they were ready to do a tour.

In 2020 there was no stopping HLW at this point. All the answers were there. HLW team finally figured out how to do events, set off with a tour leading into a big event. HLW started booking their tour and saw the funds coming in. Five days before the tour date, a call came in and Teddy Hart was wrongfully accused for some things and had to take time away. Teddy sent some friends in from the states to take his place. HLW hosted two events and there was nothing going to get in the way. Funding was coming in and it was a success! The HLW talent Teddy sent in were famous MMA  fighters. HLW was making money and booking more event dates. HLW was set. The news announced a pandemic COVID 19 and closed down everything.

2021 announcements made that sports and entertainment was opened up again. Money was coming in like it was growing on trees and HLW was set once again without fail. HLW starts booking the tour and one venue shut down, then the day before the tour started the Gov't announces COVID vaccine passports have to be in place and 1/3 capacity is allowed for spectators.  Tour shut down.

In December of 2021, one of HLW talent bookers (Shannon Ritch) calls and mentions a major movie producer that loves wrestling and has taken an interest in signing HLW for a year at their stadium in New York. Stay tuned!...
